    Reflectivity

    Luminous reflectance may not exceed 35% on the front side windows, and may not exceed 35% on the rear window or the side windows behind the front seat — except that the rear window and side windows behind the front seat of a multipurpose vehicle, van, or bus are exempt from both the reflectance and the 20% light-transmission limits.

    Colors

    Red, yellow, or amber sunscreening material above the AS-1 line on the windshield. No color restriction is stated for any other window.

    Medical exemption

    None. Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 60-6,257 through 60-6,259 contain no medical exemption, waiver, or permit. Several secondary sites (including tintlaws.com) state that Nebraska issues medical tint permits; nothing in the statute supports that.

    Penalties

    Owner or operator of a vehicle in violation: Class V misdemeanor (§ 60-6,258). A person who applies sunscreening material or glass-plastic glazing material that results in a violation of § 60-6,257(1): Class III misdemeanor (§ 60-6,259).

    Notes

    The rear window and side windows behind the front seat of a multipurpose vehicle, van, or bus are expressly excepted from the 20% VLT / 35% reflectance limits, so any darkness is permitted there. "Multipurpose vehicle" is defined in § 60-6,257(2)(g) as a motor vehicle designed to carry ten or fewer passengers that is constructed on a truck chassis or with special features for occasional off-road use — which covers SUVs, minivans, and pickups. The 35% front-side-window standard applies to every vehicle type with no exception. Separately, § 60-6,257(1)(a) makes it unlawful to drive with windows tinted so that the driver's clear view is reduced or the ability to see into the vehicle is substantially impaired, and (1)(e) requires campers, motor homes, pickup covers, and slide-in campers to meet 49 C.F.R. 571.205 safety-glazing standards.

    Nebraska tint questions

    What is the darkest legal tint in Nebraska?

    For a sedan in Nebraska, front side windows must let at least 35% of light through, back side windows at least 20%, and the rear window at least 20%. Lower VLT means darker glass, so those percentages are floors, not targets, and the meter reads the film and the factory glass together. SUVs, vans and trucks are listed separately: front side 35%, back side no VLT limit, rear no VLT limit.

    Is 20% tint legal in Nebraska?

    No, not on the front side windows. Nebraska requires at least 35% VLT there and 20% is darker than that, before you even account for the factory glass, which makes the reading darker still. The back side windows have a 20% floor, so 20% film can be legal there.

    Can I tint the windshield in Nebraska?
