    Colors

    No color is prohibited, but letters or logos larger than 1/4 inch may not be applied to the windows, and after-market tinting applied together with striping material is unlawful (§ 27-37-306(a))

    Medical exemption

    yes - a motorist diagnosed by a physician with a disease or disorder (the statute names albinism and lupus as examples) for which the physician determines an exemption is in the motorist's best interest; the physician's certification must be carried in the vehicle and is valid 3 years. Since Aug. 16, 2013 the exemption permits 20% on the side windows and side wings, 10% on the rearmost window, and 50% on the front windshield. On transfer of the vehicle the owner must either disclose that the tint is outside legal limits without a waiver or remove it (§ 27-37-306(e))

    Notes

    The 10% allowance behind the driver applies to 'any truck, bus, trailer, motor home, or multiple purpose passenger vehicle' - so Arkansas gives SUVs and vans a real 10% floor rather than unlimited darkness. The rearmost window is 10% on every vehicle, including sedans. Rules apply to 1994-and-later models, and to 1993-and-older models that were not tinted under the repealed 1991 acts (§ (h)). The section does not apply to motorists driving vehicles registered in other states that have their own tint legislation (§ (d)), nor to vehicles used exclusively or primarily to transport dead human bodies (§ (f)); law-enforcement windshields may go to 50% (§ (i)). § 27-37-307 'sedan' is a term of art - a chauffeur-driven automobile for hire licensed under § 27-14-601(a)(2) seating at least three rear passengers, not an ordinary passenger sedan - and allows 15% rear passenger doors, 10% rear windshield, 10% windshield eyebrow and 25% front passenger doors.     Arkansas tint questions

    What is the darkest legal tint in Arkansas?

    For a sedan in Arkansas, front side windows must let at least 25% of light through, back side windows at least 25%, and the rear window at least 10%. Lower VLT means darker glass, so those percentages are floors, not targets, and the meter reads the film and the factory glass together. SUVs, vans and trucks are listed separately: front side 25%, back side 10%, rear 10%.

    Is 20% tint legal in Arkansas?

    No, not on the front side windows. Arkansas requires at least 25% VLT there and 20% is darker than that, before you even account for the factory glass, which makes the reading darker still. The back side windows have a 25% floor, so 20% is too dark there too.
